Susan Shaw

Lovely petite blonde British actress, groomed for stardom by the Rank Organisation.

Shaw’s films include Walking on Air (her debut, under her real name of Patsy Sloots, 1946), London Belongs To Me (1948), Holiday Camp (1948), Here Come The Huggetts (the first of a series of 3 films, 1948), Quartet (1949), Pool of London (1951), The Good Die Young (1954), Fire Maidens From Outer Space (1956) and Carry On Nurse (1958).

Shaw married the actor Bonar Colleano in 1955 and was never the same after his tragic early death in a car crash in 1958. She began drinking heavily and finally quit acting in the 1960’s, working in a variety of jobs including as a barmaid and finally “nightclub hostess”. Shaw’s last screen job was a bit part (“girl in truck”) in the 1972 film Sitting Target.

She died penniless, of cirrhosis of the liver, and her funeral was paid for by the Rank Organisation.

This is a very pretty original vintage 1940s black and white studio publicity photograph (9" x 7.25"), nicely signed and inscribe ("To Bill, Susan Shaw") in blue fountain pen ink across a light area of the image. The margins have been trimmed, but the job has been neatly done and overall condition is very good. EXCEPTIONALLY RARE in this size of image.
