Eminent English judge and Master of the Rolls.

Denning is best remembered for his inquiry into the Profumo Scandal.

In 1963 the public had learned of an affair between prostitute Christine Keeler and John Profumo, then Secretary of State for War. When the scandal broke Lord Denning was asked by the Conservative Prime Minister, Harold Macmillan, to inquire into security aspects of the affair. He sat alone and in private, even sending the women shorthand-writers out because he thought some of the evidence was so disgusting. As Lord Denning himself remarked, his report was a best seller. More than 100,000 people bought copies. It also put him firmly in the public eye.

This is a fine sepia-coloured photograph (5.25" x 4.25"), neatly signed in black ink across a clear area of the image. With it comes a short note (" Dear Mr Whelan, My thanks - here is a photograph for you, Best wishes, Denning"), handwritten and signed in black ink on an 8" x 5.75" sheet  of House of Lords notepaper.

Both items are in very good condition.
