British actress.

Anderson’s dignified manner and plain, but expressive features qualified her for a wide range of character parts, from austere nurses and overbearing dowagers to authoritarian aunts and sharp spinsters. She rarely gave an indifferent performance and was often brilliant.

Although she appeared in many excellent films, she’s probably best remembered for her television roles as hard-faced matriarch Mary Hammond in the BBC drama The Brothers (1972-76) and as rebellious aristocrat Lady Jocelyn "Joss" Holbrook in the Second World War series Tenko (1982-84).

Her many film credits include A Town Like Alice (1956), The Barretts of Wimpole Street (1957), Lucky Jim (1957), Waltz of the Toreadors (1962), Half A Sixpence (1967) and Leon the Pig Farmer (1992).

This is a very fine black and white photograph (5.5" x 3.25"), neatly signed in black ink across the lower white panel. In very good condition.
