Great English ornithologist and artist, son of Robert Falcon Scott (“Scott of the Antarctic”).
Scott used television to popularise natural history and wrote and illustrated a number of books on the subject. His lasting legacy is the Severn Wildfowl Trust at Slimbridge, which he founded in 1948.
This is a Benham's First Day Cover commemorating The British Butterfly Conservation Society and featuring four lovely Royal Mail butterfly stamps. Posted at Slimbridge on the 13th May 1981, it has been nicely signed by Peter Scott in black ink. This cover has at some point been display mounted. leaving a fine edge of toning around the front of the cover and with tape mounting evidence around the edge to the reverse. Priced accordingly, and a bargain at that!
