French singer and actor, born in Egypt.

Guetary (real name Lambros Worloon) worked in French music hall, first as a band guitarist from the 1930s, then as a protege of Mistinguett.

He became a star in London in the musical Bless The Bride, appeared on Broadway and in 1951 made his only American movie, An American in Paris. In this film he performed several unforgettable song and dance sequences alongside Gene Kelly and Oscar Levant, playing Henri, the popular French singer who provided the third apex in the love triangle involving Kelly and love interest Leslie Caron. His two most memorable sequences in the Oscar-winning film came when he sang George and Ira Gershwin's "'SWonderful" and when, dressed in top hat and tails, he performed "I'll Build a Stairway to Paradise" atop a spectacular lighted staircase.

This is a very early black and white deckle-edged French postcard of the handsome young Georges Guetary, nicely signed in blue fountain pen ink ("G.Guetary"). There's an additional note in ink to the reverse ("Thank you for your nice letter. G.G."). In very good condition.
