Belgian astronomer, most famous for his studies of asteroids and comets.

Delporte discovered a total of sixty-six asteroids, including 1221 Amor (another name for the Amor asteroids, a group of near-Earth asteroids whose orbits range between those of Earth and Mars) and the Apollo-class asteroid 2101 Adonis (one of the first near-Earth asteroids ever to be discovered, and potentially dangerous because of its eccentric orbit).

Delporte also discovered or co-discovered a number of comets, including periodic comet 57P/du Toit-Neujmin-Delporte.

In 1930 he drew the modern boundaries between all of the constellations in the sky.

The crater Delporte on the Moon is named after him.
