British actress, best remembered for her lead performance as Ruth Manson, struggling for survival on a remote Scottish island in Michael Powell’s cult The Edge of the World (1937), one of Martin Scorcese’s favourite films, revived and restored in 1999.

(Winston Churchill loathed Vic Oliver. Oliver is said to have once asked his father-in-law who was the most impressive figure in the war. Churchill replied "Mussolini". When asked why, Churchill replied "Because he shot his son-in-law".)
