Grenfell, Joyce   (1910-1979)
Grenfell, Joyce Much loved British comedienne.
A listing of two signed items.
The first is an exceptionally pretty original vintage black and white photograph (8" x 10") of Joyce in her 1951 film, Laughter in Paradise. This is neatly signed and inscribed ("with all good wishes to John Court - Joyce Grenfell") in ink to lower right corner. There's an additional note in ink, immediately below the signature ("signed about 30 years afterwards!")
The second item is a not on a 5" x 3" white card, sent to the fan with the photograph and handwritten in black ink (29 September 1979). It reads (in full):

Dear Mr Court
Thanks you for your letter - I fear Maud - "A moment with Tennyson" is no longer available, It was on a disc now deleted.
I've signed the enclosed. The still is from Laughter in Paradise when I was the neglected fiance of Alitair Sims (sic).
With good wishes from
Sincerely
Joyce Grenfell

"Maud - A Moment with Tennyson" is a sketch from her 1951-52 revue at St Martin's Theatre in London. (It is actually available now on compilation recordings of her material).

These two items are very sad. Joyce fell seriously ill within days of signing them for the fan and died on November 20th 1979.
